Hacking MySpace

ImageChef allows you to create images for your MySpace profile that incorporate the text of your choice in a predesigned image template.

Kiko is a free online calendar that allows you to create widgets to publicize and share events through your MySpace profile.

There are a plethora of widgets available on the Internet; sadly many of them won’t work on MySpace because they’re in JavaScript or PHP. Until recently, all of the cool widgets available through the Widgetbox platform were not usable with MySpace because Widgetbox uses JavaScript.

If you’re a frustrated DJ or just like playing around with music, you are going to love YourSpins.com. This very cool web site allows you to remix music tracks and then share them with the world via your MySpace profile (or blog).

Once you choose a song, an online real-time mixing window appears (see above) that shows the music broken up into parts (for example intro, verse, chorus, break) and each part broken up into channels (for example vocals, backing vocals, strings, bass lines and drum tracks).

Stickam is a social networking site based around video conferencing, so the idea is that you get on and chat to other members via your web cam. What makes it interesting to MySpace users is that you can create a widget that you can place on your MySpace profile so that you can broadcast video from your webcam to your MySpace profile in real time.

In addition to the very good, though slightly buggy, RSS reader widget that I reviewed last week, TheSpringBox has a number of other very cool widgets that actually work with MySpace, including a Scoreboard widget.
