In this post I plan to discuss if it is worth customizing your profile 2.0 with hand-written CSS or if the Myspace editor covers enough to allow you to customize your profile how you like.
I plan to create a post (probably next week) about the profile 2.0 CSS classes for those of you who would like to hand write your code rather than use the editor but I decided that it would be best to discuss the other options of customizing your profile before making that post (hence why I am making this one).
What are my Options?
For customizing your profile 2.0 on Myspace there are only really 3 (or 4) options you could go for, which are:
- Pre-made Layouts (by Myspace or otherwise)
- Myspace Profile 2.0 editor
- Write your own CSS
- Write your own CSS to create a div layout
The Simple Way
The easiest way to customize your profile would be to use pre-made layouts. There are plenty of sites out there where you can get some (e.g. my site - free divs - for profile 1.0 div layouts) and Myspace has a collection of layouts that you can use as well. Some of these layouts are pretty nice and if your not really bothered that other people will have layouts the same as yours then I’d say that this is a good option.
Profile Editor
The next step up is using the Myspace profile editor. It’s pretty self explanatory really and you can read that other post I made about it to find out more if you like.
Write your own CSS
Writing your own CSS gives you a bit more control over how everything looks and allows you to create things that the profile editor wouldn’t allow you to (if you know how to code them in).
You can also use it to create what most people call div layouts. This is a more advanced way of customizing your profile but allows you to be much more creative with your layout. So why bother coding a div layout in profile 2.0? Well, it makes it a bit easier to hide everything, but other than that there isn’t much of a difference.
So which way do you prefer to use?
