myspace lite Myspace just released a new update to include “Myspace Lite” on profile pages. In this post I plan to go through what Lite actually is and give my opinions about it.

I know this blog comes mid week (when I usually post a blog on a Monday) but I have been busy the past few days and haven’t had time to do this until now so I am sorry.

What is it?

Myspace Lite is a feature that I have been waiting for a long time on Myspace. The purpose of it is to cut out certain content of the page to speed up the page load time. This means that pages that have lots of images and/or videos or whatever can be viewed relatively quickly using this feature as it just won’t load these items.

This is especially good for those on slower connections (e.g. Me) or bandwidth limits. It means that you can browse profiles without downloading so much content and thus cut down on load time and the bandwidth you (and Myspace) use.

The setting if clicked will toggle back and forth from lite view to normal view each time you click it. The setting is stored and stays on the setting you keep it at while you browse other pages of the site.

The Lite view can be found in the navigation bar next to the “Log Out” button on profile pages. It is simple to use, you simply roll over it and choose “Full View” or “Lite View”.

As always there are some browsers that don’t support this (e.g. Opera — surprise surprise). I assume older versions of browsers won’t support it either (but haven’t tested any).

My Opinions

I think this is a great feature. I have thought that it would be since I joined Myspace. I used to help a lot in HTML groups and I saw a lot of profiles that people just seemed to want to put everything they could on (photos, other images, flash games, flash slideshows, music players, etc.) and I thought that Myspace needed a feature like this back then. Now that it has one I am more than happy with it (although making it Opera compatible would be nice).

I think it was a great decision by Myspace to include this feature.
