While logging into Myspace the other day I noticed an advert for “Propose on Myspace on Valentines day”, needless to say that this post will be about my opinions of this competition (and also inform you about the competition if you don’t know already).
The Competition
I’m sure a lot of you are aware of the competitions that Myspace do occasionally to try and get more people involved in their community, for example around Christmas time they gave away a bunch of flip cameras to people who befriended a certain Myspace account. Well this competition is very similar to that Christmas one, they are still giving away a flip camera to someone each day it runs and there is the large prize of being able to propose to your other half on valentines day 2009 on the front page/homepage of Myspace.
To enter the valentines day competition all you need to do is go to that link and follow the simple instructions on that page, which are:
- Write 150 words to say why you want to propose - no more!
- Pick a photo of yourself and the person you wish to propose to.
- Email it to me at mycupid@myspace. com with the subject “I WANT TO PROPOSE” including a contact phone number.
- I’ll pick a winner on the morning of Friday 13th (lucky for some eh) and contact you to talk over the design - after all, I want it to be perfect too!!!
- Saturday comes….Bobs your uncle….& hopefully someone special is your wife/husband to be!
My Opinion
I really think that proposing to someone via the Myspace homepage is a very tacky way to do it. Okay, so it would be pretty cool to see you (and your loved ones) face there for a day and whatever else they are doing if you win the competition, but proposing through a social networking website? It’s not exactly romantic or anything. Plus you can’t guarantee that your loved one will go to Myspace on that day (unless you force them, but they are bound to know about this competition and think something is going on. Or unless your loved one is a Myspace addict and has to check it at least once a day, then I guess your pretty certain they will see it).
Maybe It won’t turn out as bad as I expect it to, maybe they will do it really well and create something amazing for the lucky people. The cynic in me tells me that it will be done really tacky with cheesy looking graphics or something along those lines, I kind of hope I’m wrong.
It would be interesting to hear other opinions on this, especially a females perspective on it (as I am male), leave a reply if you want to voice your opinion.
