A lot of people in the past week have asked me how to change to the new profile 2.0 version and some have asked me how to change back from the profile 2.0 to profile 1.0 again. I thought that it would be a good idea to explain how to do both in a post here, it’ll help people who view this blog regularly and also gives me a link to point people who ask me about it to.
Switching to profile 2.0
This is the easier process of the two. All you need to do is follow the steps below:
- Sign in to Myspace
- Click on “edit profile”
- Click “Try it out, you can always go back.” in the small information box at the top of the page.
- This should bring up a page about profile 2.0, click the “Upgrade to profile 2.0″ button.
- It then brings you to the edit screen for profile 2.0 Enjoy
Some things to note about doing this are that all the CSS you had applied to your profile 1.0 will be removed (although Myspace say they keep it saved for 90 days if you choose to switch back to profile 1.0). A lot of old Myspace codes won’t work on the new profile 2.0 either, it has a different page structure and so a lot of the codes do not work now. Also remember that a big plus on the new profile 2.0 is that it has much better security features so that you can keep your privacy online much easier.
Switching back to profile 1.0
If you want to switch back to profile 1.0 then it’s not really clear how to do it when you go to edit your profile (I assume this is because Myspace want more people using profile 2.0). But if you follow these steps then you shouldn’t have any problems:
- Go to the edit profile creator: http://profileedit.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=pageeditor.profile
- Click “Go Back” which is located at the top right of the page.
- A pop up box will appear with 2 options inside it:
- “Start from scratch”
- “Switch to profile 1.0″
- Take a guess which one you click on (”Switch to profile 1.0″ for those who don’t appreciate my humor)
- You will get another pop up box saying that profile 1.0 doesn’t have some features that profile 2.0 does, just click “OK”
- That should be you finished. Enjoy.
Most people will only want to switch back to profile 1.0 if they want to use a div layout, or if they want to use a pre-made layout from a Myspace resource site that only works on profile 1.0 but I hope this helps others too.

Why is it when you use 2.0 that your page shows up for everyone to see, even if it is set to private? I like the cleaner feel to 2.0 but I changed it back to vs 1 b/c I didn’t want certain people to be allowed to view my comments and such.
An explanation to this would be great, also do you think they will switch it back to the original way for 2.0 so that only friends can view your page?

In 2.0 you can set different privacy settings to different modules on your page. You just click the little pencil looking thing on the module, then you can choose to only have friends view that.
You can set it so that the whole page is friends only, or so that non-friends can only see some of your profile. IMO this is better than just the either everyone can see or only friends can see.

Josh:
It probably just sounds similar because it is the only process to do this. I can tell you that I didn’t copy your blog.
sb:
I’m pretty sure thats in the editor itself (which is something that i’m going to write a blog about today)

I’ve followed all the instructions but when I got to the “Go Back” part, there’s only one option, “Start From Scratch” not two options..What can I do?

Hi Becca,
Myspace delete the old profile after 30 days I think if you don’t switch back within that time.
They might have started to do it as soon as you switch by now (I’d have to check though).

I have tried almost a thousand times to follow the instructions to set me profile to 1.0. I started with 2.0 and I hate it. When I get to the go back part, it takes me to start from scratch and leaves me in 2.0. Switch to 1.0 never comes up! What’s going on?

Okay..i did what you said, but still it didn’t work for me? first i click on “arrow that said go back” & this what pop up
Start from scratch You can reset all modules, the page theme, and the layout to look like a standard profile by clicking “Start from scratch”. This is how Tom’s profile looks.
“start from scratch click here”
that all it said. it don’t said 1. “Start from scratch”
2. “Switch to profile 1.0″
