With more and more libraries, schools and businesses, blocking MySpace, what’s a MySpace junkie to do? Well there are ways of accessing MySpace on computers where it is blocked, but beware, it could be extremely dangerous.
With a circumventor or proxy server you type in the URL you would like to visit, but instead of the web site appearing in its own Window, it appears as content in the proxy server’s window. As far as the computer is concerned, it’s as though you’re visiting the proxy web server site, not the blocked site.
I had a look at a number of proxy web servers including Vtunnel, Poxy v1, and ProxySpin.com.
The big problem with these sites is that if they are run by unscrupulous web masters, they could be used to steal your login password. For that reason, while you could use these kinds of sites to view MySpace, I don’t recommend that you actually log into your account.
The other problem is that these sites can get blocked as well. And if you a site such as Proxy v1 starts appearing on the network logs, you can be sure that the network administrator will soon start blocking it. Some administrators block all sites containing the term network. Having said that, typing “MySpace proxy server” into Google brings up hundreds of alternatives.
Also, as a general rule, widgets don’t work with these proxy servers.
For the purpose of reviewing these proxy servers I tried them to load my div profile at http://www.myspace.com/hackingmyspace
- Vtunnel brings up lots of advertising pop ups, including the awful ones that open a new window when you close them. It did actually show the profile properly, but not the MySpace banner ad.
- Proxy v1 did the best job of actually showing the profile, including the MySpace banner ad. It even tried (unsuccessfully) to run the SpringBox RSS widget on my profile.
- ProxySpin uses the same proxy platform as Proxy 1, and so also did a good job of displaying the profile.
During testing yesterday, I also came across really questionable proxy servers that force you to click on Google Adsense ads to continue. This against the Adsense terms of use. I would suggest that you avoid these kinds of sites.
By the way, you can also use Google to show content from blocked pages by visiting this site http://www.google.com/gwt/n - but the test profile was completely garbled.
If you get really desperate you could also try setting up your own proxy server (if you have your own web domain) using phpdomain. At least this way you would no that no one would try to steal your password.

It is easy to access blocked or fitlered sites directly from web browser. Most of the schools are blocking myspace or other social related sites but teens are able to surf myspace.com via proxy servers. I use http://www.surfinter.net and http://www.msproxy.net ! You can find proxy list and use the proxy direct in your IE settings tools-.connections->lan settings. It is 100% free and anonymous with privacy protection. Enjoy

I think what everyone needs to do, instead of complaining about it being blocked, is to complain to MySpace. If they would do their part and keep out the perverts that use it, then it wouldn’t be such an offensive site. Then, it would be unblocked by sysadmins at libraries and schools and these stupid proxies wouldn’t be needed. I work in a library and reluctantly blocked MySpace. Why? It’s because within a matter of a couple of minutes, elementary school kids…7-10 yr. olds were bringing up nude photos on Myspace. That’s a Myspace problem…so complain to them if you REALLY want to make a difference.

I go to a school that uses a Novel Server. Every single site I have tried. (I’ve tried at least 30 different proxy sites.) is blocked. Is there any other way to get around it?
