“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach him how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime” was the philosphy behind my book Hacking MySpace. I’ve always believed that it’s important to show why and how things work, and to give people enough information so that they can go one step further. That’s why I’m impressed with Tom Klenwell’s MySpace Civilized, a blog which really empowers its readers to customize their MySpace profiles.
One of the most exciting projects that Tom is pursuing is ”moshi“, an open-source MySpace style sheet. The project seeks to “promote elegance in myspace design by developing and publishing open source stylesheets that emphasize simplicity, sensibility, and, where possible, established web-design standards”.
Basically what the moshi open source sheet allows you to do is to restyle your existing MySpace profile, so it looks something like this or like this.
What’s great about this project is that brings together a lot of smaller hacks into one structured, logical style sheet. Take note you still need to know how to use CSS (but hey, you’d have learnt that from Hacking MySpace), but this style sheet makes modifying your existing profile so much easier.
This is a really good idea, and if you’re not quite ready to develop a div profile, this is a good way to start playing with your CSS skills (Chapters 6 and 7 in Hacking MySpace).
Thanks to MySpace Hacks for the heads up.

I’m currently on page 88, Part I, Ch. 7, of HACKING MYSPACE - learning about divisions and spans. Eating this stuff up.
When I’m done here and have a chance of understanding what I’m seeing in Tom Klenwell’s blog, I’ll hop to it.
You are fast becoming one of my ten favorite people. Where did you learn such generosity of spirit? It’s not just in your words, but in the care for the logic of the beginner that is evident in your book. Your daughter is a lucky little girl. My compliments to your wife.
